“untitledLEAR” is an original adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear created for Ralph Cotteril and students of the Alliance Francais in Yangon. The adaptation reduces the script to a monologue spoken by a character who is either a senile man in an institution or truly a mad King Lear haunted by his failing memory. Nevertheless the performance is a question about the past, the present, and the future articulating deep problems inherent within authoritarian rule and the dreadful consequences of imperious ego. “untitledLEAR” was performed as part of the iUi Festival 2010, at the Aliance Français, Yangon.
