The Bangkok Artist’s Intensive program is an extension of The Bangkok Performance Bootcamp which began as an inter-cultural theatre ensemble training program in 2004, developed by Ruth Pongstaphone and WRC Theatre Inc. at the Patravadi Theatre in Bangkok. The intensive uses a similar three week curriculum as did the bootcamp, including courses in Thai Classical Dance, Khon Mask Dance, Thai Drums, Muay Thai, Western based physical theatre, Butoh & Contemporary Asian Dance, visual art and contemporary concepts in Buddhist philosophy, while maintaining a focus on the individual artist’s journey and the cultivation of personal responses to new cultural experiences as material for the creation of solo work.
In 2007 a portion of the curriculum was adapted to include time in residence at Empty Space Art Center in Chiangmai where students gain deeper experience in immersion into Thai culture along with exposure to Northern Thai Music and Fontien, Lanna style Thai dance. In 2007 the curriculum also included a seminar in World Theatre & Ritual practices.
